Moving Forward from Nurturing Potential

Issue 06 - October 2013

From our Friends

Stories and information received from friends and colleagues that we hope our readers will find informative and interesting

It is autumn, October 1st 2013. There has been no rain for several months and temperatures are still high 80s in the shade. There has been a lot to learn in the garden.

  Read entire blog.

A gap of two months in this blog, due to the third issue of New Nurturing Potential appearing in September.

But there has been no gap in my enjoyable theatre-going experiences, enhanced by a succession of visitors from overseas.

PS: And just before putting this blog "to bed" I learned that grand-daughter Jessica-Ann had landed the lead (Eliza Doolittle) in the production of Pygmalion at the Bob Hope Theatre in March 2014.  Well done, girl!  Talent does get recognised!

Reflections, Actions and Prospects

The New Nurturing Potential Issue 3, the Autumn issue, was duly published in September 2013.

The next issue - Winter 2013 - is scheduled for publication towards the end of December 2013.

In the meantime, we hope you will avoid withdrawal symptoms with the aid of this issue of Potential Unleashed and the issue that will appear in late November.

We have created Nurturing Potential groups on both the Facebook and the LinkedIn social networking sites.  So far we have a disappointing number of members, that suggests (and we don't think this is being naively modest) we may not have advertised it appropriately on the sites, or have made it difficult for applicants to sign-up for membership.  If you have any information or suggestions to support this, please let us know, using our direct email link .

The Winter 2013 issue of Nurturing Potential iIt will feature the conclusion of the main theme of Teamwork.

Amongst other articles that have been commissioned or promised are

In the Education Section

Reinforcement Theory - using "positive reinforcements," to maintain discipline in schools and strategies to deal with bad behaviour.

In the Arts Section

Social Networking - what are the pros and cons of social networking?  Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn . . . there are a multitude of options for people who want to get together with other people.  But to what purpose?  What does it provide - and to whom - that is not available elsewhere?  What are the risks?  What are the potential rewards?

For one of the more extreme examples of the risks, click here

In the Book Review Section

The right-hand column starts with a list of books we have received for review in the next issue of New Nurturing Potential.  If you would like to review any of these, please let us know.

We are looking for contributions in the form of articles, or "Letters to the Editor" on these or - indeed - any other subjects for inclusion in the next issue of New Nurturing Potential.   Last date for contributions is December 15, 2013.

If you would like to collaborate with us, please get in touch with Joe Sinclair via contact details at the foot of this page.
