We very much
regret to report the death of Norman Daniels at the age of 84.
After
National Service in Malaya and several other jobs, Norman joined Sea Containers
in the mid-1970s to be in charge of payroll, first in North Row, then in
Hanover Square and finally in Sea Containers House.
In the 1980s
he contracted a mouth cancer that kept him off work for two years. When he came back it was as assistant to Ian
Whiteman in taxation and he stayed there until he retired in 1995, having
greatly enjoyed his working and social time at the company.
In
retirement he had an active life in his home town of Hockley, near Southend,
where he was a staunch member of the church, and he also travelled. Early this year the cancer returned. He was offered a major operation to rebuild
where his jaw was infected but he decided against it.
Recently he
moved into a hospice where he died on 9th September.
After
cremation, a memorial service will be held at Hockley and Hawkwell
Methodist Church, Main Road, Hockley, Essex SS5 4QY on Wednesday 24th
September at 11.30, with refreshments in the hall afterwards. We send our condolences to his niece and
nephew and the family.
