Michael Mallows |
Michael and I at the GRTA conference in 1990
I first met Michael Mallows at an annual conference of the Group Relations Training Association (GRTA) held, that year, at Loughborough University.
We found we had much in common, having earlier pursued precisely the same personal development studies of Co-counselling, A Course in Miracles, Transactional Analysis, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. We became firm friends. Later that friendship expanded into the area of collaboration with writing and publishing projects.
Michael introduced me to the NLP Learning Network and I became editor of their magazine New Learning. I was already editing the magazine of the GRTA - first Group Relations and then Groupvine. We discussed the possibility of producing a magazine that was not confined to the areas of these two organisations, but could be a vehicle to empowerment in other areas, such as personal growth, business, health and relationships. Thus was born Nurturing Potential which now, 14 years later, is still being produced, albeit in somewhat modified form.
Our exploration of other possibilities for collaboration eventually led us to the idea of a series of books, with the generic series title of Getting It Right. We wrote and successfully published the first of these Peace of Mind is a Piece of Cake. Still in print, and selling spasmodically. But somehow we never got around to writing the other proposed books. Michael was fully occupied in other directions, and I was busy with magazine work and publishing other books - of which this is the latest.
There is much more to write in this section, but it will have to be postponed as I have reached a self-imposed publication deadline. In any case, my relationship with Michael Mallows is fully documented on my website and on Michael's, and the expansion of this section will have to await the second edition of this book, which is already being planned.
