MY COUNTDOWN

More than 20 years separated my interview after I had applied for a place on Countdown (for such was the procedure at that time) and my subsequent telephone conversation with a Channel 4 representative who asked me some relatively simple questions and then confirmed that I was apparently suitable as a contestant. 

The interim had been marked by several changes of employment, address, and domestic situation.
